JAM Reviews Vanquisher from Magnolia Home Entertainment
Vanquisher: Blu-Ray: Magnolia Home Entertainment
Review by JAM
In the tradition of imported Thai martial arts movies, Vanquisher sets the tone early with a covert CIA mission recruitment of a Royal Thai Police force special ops agent by the codename of Gunja (Sophita Sribanchean (listed as Sophita Saiban on the Blu-ray)) who is drawn into the machinations of a CIA agent out to destroy a terrorist cell, or maybe kill the special forces assembled by her, or maybe establish a crime empire of her own. It was kind of confusing as to what the actual plot was. All I know is it was a ton of women with high kicks and leather outfits, and that was ok for me.
Vanquisher also stars Jacqui A. Thannanon as Claire the CIA agent who is running the extremely convoluted op and Kessarin Ektawatkul as Sirin, the one other person Gunja may be able to trust.
JAMS Ink on Vanquisher
Well, this one is an interesting one. There are a lot of characters, a lot of things happening, a lot of fight scenes, a lot of explosions, and a whole lot of stuff that I never really understood. The plot is sketchy at best but involves a double-cross of a special ops female and her chance at revenge in its simplest distilled form. Basically you have a number of women, a bunch of ninjas, swords and guns, explosions and death all packed in a B-movie from the minds of the Thai action genre. If you are in the mood for leather clad women fighting with swords, guns, and martial arts moves, this could be a movie for you. The best fighting scenes in my opinion are when Sophita and Kessarin share the screen. The moves just seem crisper and cleaner, and the fact that they are the two best looking girls in the movie does not hurt either.
EXTRAS
The Making of Vanquisher – A look at the background and history of the making of the film. Kind of an interesting look at the challenges and issues with the making of the film.
Behind the Scenes – Stunts, mess-ups, and a little look behind the scenes of this Thai movie.
If you need a Thai martial art movie and leather clad girls are a bonus, then you should check out Vanquisher on Blu-ray on March 22, 2011.
