JAM Reviews Goosebumps: The Blob That Ate Everyone from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment

Goosebumps: The Blob That Ate Everyone: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
Review by JAM

From the mind of R.L. Stine and Scholastic, Inc come the previously unreleased DVD Goosebumps: The Blob Who Ate Everyone. A spooky little collection of episodes from the past (1995-97 to be exact) that combined stories that made you squirm a little while you learned a valuable lesson from the participants in the story. Three episodes are included with the official Fox synopses included below.

The Blob That Ate Everyone 12-year-old Zack Beauchamp’s dream is to be a famous horror writer – even though he hasn’t quite gotten over his fear of the dark. He’s just written his scariest story ever about a giant pink, oozing, wet blob that terrorizes the neighborhood, swallowing up everything in sight. But when Zack starts typing his spooky story on the old typewriter he found, every hair-raising word begins to come true!

My Hairiest Adventure Larry Boyd is having a bad day. He’s been chased by dogs, his band sounds pathetic, and his allergies seem to be getting worse. It’s not just a bad day, it’s a bad hair day...suddenly he is growing thick, long hair on his arms and legs. Even more troubling, his friends seem to be disappearing. Larry knows they never should have used that old bottle of Instant-Tan…could that have something to do with these strange occurrences? Can Hairy Larry get to the bottom of this before he ends up like the rest of his friends... hair one day, gone tomorrow?

Piano Lessons Can Be Murder When Jerry finds a dusty old piano in the basement of his new house, his parents offer to pay for lessons. Taking piano seems like a cool idea if it means he’ll be able to jam with his cute next-door neighbor, Kim. But there’s something strange about Jerry’s piano teacher, Dr. Shreek. He is really creepy. Something Jerry can’t quite put his finger on. What’s more, Jerry begins receiving nightly visits from a terrifying ghost who warns him about the music school. When Jerry stumbles upon a secret room at Shreek’s school it is time for him to face the music.

Check them out for your young teens or preteens for a little pre-Halloween fright night!

JAMS Ink on Goosebumps: Go Eat Worms!

Every writer believes he can bring his stories to life in the mind of his readers, but not everyone is like Zach. A typewriter that seems to be magical and a blob that hungers for everything and everyone highlight this story that shows if you can believe it, it can be real.

Larry and his friends find that the easy way out with an expired tanning lotion is truly for the dogs. Are his friends all disappearing or is he barking up the wrong tree?

Jerry and his overactive imagination find an abandoned piano in his family’s new house that comes with its very own ghost. Throw in a cute neighbor girl, piano lessons, and a creepy teacher and you have one crazy tuning adventure.

The Goosebumps collections are fun little niche DVDs to have for a little spookiness for the teen/pre-teens in your life. One thing I always admired about the series is that they could give you a little shiver as you were watching, but it was never too scary. It was more over-the-top than anything, but is a fun little grab as Halloween nears. So check it out when you get the chance and don’t get too scared!
