Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced today its partnership with the ultimate film discussion website, Home Theater Forum, for a one-of-a-kind campaign, VOICE YOUR CHOICE, allowing film enthusiasts to decide which classic films they would like to see digitally restored and transferred to Blu-ray for the very first time. The program celebrates Fox’s most notable films from the 1930’s thru the 1960’s featuring performances by famous actors such as Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Paul Newman, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne and more. Throughout the campaign, fans will also have the opportunity to write in and submit additional titles. Voting begins today at www.hometheaterforum.com and at www.foxconnect.com.

Follow the Berry Brick Road! Strawberry Shortcake takes the cyclone ride to Oz and finds herself the main player in a retelling of the world famous fairy tale alongside versions of her friends. Finding herself on the odds with a wicked witch (Sour Grapes) bent on taking out the Gem Berries who light up the magic land of Oz, with the help of her allies the Scarecrow (Ginger Snap), the Tin Woodsgirl (Peppermint Fizz), and the Cowardly Lion (Orange Blossom) she must help the Berry-kins (filling in for the Munchkins) save the day.

The Big Year: Blu-Ray with Digital Copy: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson are all masters of the comedy genre who have hits galore, and many misses as well. So when discovering the teaming of these three in a movie about bird watching, this reviewer’s first thoughts were, “Oh no!” Well, consider this reviewer corrected as he is proud to recommend this as the greatest bird watching movie he has ever seen out of the huge number (1) that he can pull from. To be honest though, it is a really fun look at relationships between husband and wife, father and son, workplace relations, and budding romances as three men aspire to be the greatest ever in a niche “sport” and find out what exactly they are looking for.

Jack Black plays Brad Harris, a son in search of his own identity while still living with his parents. He truly is pursuing that which he loves, using his savings and time off on his onetime chance for greatness in the bird-watching world. Steve Martin comes from the other side of the tracks as Stu Preissler, a father approaching grandfather status and ready to retire from a company which he founded, and which also continues to drag him back into the fray. And finally there is the champion Kenny Bostick as played by Owen Wilson who seeks to maintain his hold on his perceived greatness while losing sight of everything that should be important to him.

These three and more ancillary characters take us on a trip around the country in search of the elusive birds required to take the top spot. Throw in love connections, love deconstructions, and a chance to find out who you really are and you find yourself drawn into the search for The Big Year

JAMS Ink on The Big Year

Jack Black, Steve Martin, Owen Wilson. Each of these comedic powerhouses have had their share of comedy greatness and comedy failures, yet they combine in this movie to establish a likeability and piqued interest in their characters as a whole. From the loveable paranoid loser of Jack Black’s Brad to Steve Martin’s family man torn in multiple directions trying to stay true to himself while competing for his ultimate prize to Owen Wilson’s misguided fear of being forgotten in the world if surpassed within the bird-watching community consuming him to the point of losing the one person standing strong beside him. The characters each have enough substance that the viewer can be drawn into the storylines even with a niche “sport” on which the movie is based upon.

The movie itself is an odd one. I would never have thought I would have enjoyed a movie about bird-watching but wanted to give it a chance with the big three that were involved. And I am glad I did. It had a rough run in theaters probably due to people like myself who felt that a storyline focusing on bird-watching would be impossible to hold attention, but I am man enough to admit I was wrong. Jack Black is controlled and enjoyable in this movie as you truly find yourself rooting for him, Steve Martin is sympathetic even as he comes off confused at times which way his character truly wants to lean. In the end, the good guy comes out in support of Jack’s character and his own family, but it seems to take longer than was needed. Owen Wilson is the antagonist in the movie, yet he comes off pitiable and a bit pitiful in his pursuit of perceived greatness. It is hard to watch a man that never becomes truly hateable throw away everything in his life which should have meaning, especially as his wife stands by him until the last possible moment. It makes him come off less driven and more dense. Otherwise his performance is good and his contributions to the overall movie are needed.

BLU-RAY Aspects

The visuals are amazing in this movie, especially in Blu-Ray. The heart of the movie is the visual undertaking of spotting birds in their natural habitats, so it would follow that the visual stimulation in the movie would be amazing both in the environment and the beauty of the wildlife itself. So, obviously I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Blu-ray for this movie.

EXTRAS

You have your choice of the theatrical version or an extended version which does not seem that much different at the end of it. You do have some fun deleted scenes to go with it though, and a gag reel which of course is fun with these three comedic powerhouses. Then you also have the look at the production aspects in the Big Migration which is enjoyable to watch.

Rachel Weisz plays Kathryn Bolkovac, a female police officer out to do the right thing, whether for her daughter soon to be moving away or the lost souls she encounters in a trip far overseas. This desire to help others is a fault that will push and test her to no end.

In the middle of a divorce, Kathryn faces the fact that her ex-husband and her daughter are soon to move away while she cannot find a transfer away from her current position. Given an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short time, she takes a chance at becoming a UN peacekeeper with Democra Security where she finds a chance to do the job she was born to do, and a whole lot of people that truly want her to not do her job.

Caught in a web of deceit in a world that treats women as objects, she finds herself caught into an even worse place as she encounters a human smuggling ring that seems to have ties to some of these UN peacekeepers themselves, using their diplomatic immunity to ensure no fear of prosecution. Fighting for what is right in the middle of everything wrong, Kathryn finds herself in a fight she may not be able to win.

JAMS Ink on The Whistleblower

Rachel Weisz is a big part of why this movie can work. It is a hard story to watch as it is raw and emotional both in storyline and in filmmaking itself. The director works well on keeping the story going in a sort of scattershot manner that works well with such a convoluted story. The viewer never really feels comfortable in the story, which only works because of the uncomfortable story and because of Rachel Weisz’s performance. She is an force to watch and even against such odds you find yourself pulling for and ready to work alongside her to do the right thing.

BLU-RAY Aspects

This is the kind of movie that stands on the strength of its acting performance and story, so that the question of Blu-ray versus DVD is not as clear-cut necessary. The film itself takes place in a dingy dark environment which does not require the enhancements of Blu-ray to maintain clarity. Also, the action tends to be convoluted and dizzy without the screen being the cause. So for this I would recommend the movie itself, in whatever manner you would like to watch it.

EXTRAS

Just one extra on this one as there is a single feature on the real life Whistleblower Kathy Bolkovac. It is an interview with the cast, crew, and real life participants in the story and gives a reality based background for the viewer to attach to. It runs about five minutes so allows quite a bit of information to be shared.

Long forgotten secrets lie beneath the waves of a daughter’s return home to a place she had been long running from in this enjoyable bloody romp through a college retreat in the saltwater bayou.



Sara Paxton stars as Sara Palski, the college girl who invites her friends over for a weekend of fun and frolicking at the family’s house on the lake. Little does any of them know that her past is coming back to haunt them all. Dustin Milligan plays Nick plays the one kid who wouldn’t care about what her past threw at them as he seems to be relatively infatuated with her as he prepares himself for medical school. Otherwise we have the typical Final Destination group of characters, the jock with the amazing future (Sinqua Wells), his soon to be fiancee (Alyssa Diaz), the comedy relief (Joel David Moore), the hot tattooed coed (Katharine McPhee), and the artistic nude model (Chris Zylka). Throw in the evil masterminds who have filled this salt water lake with many species of sharks (not really a spoiler since the movie is called Shark Night!) and you have a classic B-movie matinee type movie.

JAMS Ink on Shark Night

With a PG-13 rating, the blood and gore is toned down and the nudity is nearly non-existent (Chris Zylka’s character show his bare buttocks in a art class scene for some reason, otherwise just bikinis galore) which allows it to keep a campy feeling without going too far overboard. Characters die through a variety of shark attacks, the masterminds of the attacks are relatively transparent from the beginning, and the survivors are the ones you expected. Yet this movie entertains throughout. You feel the sharks around you, you know they’re coming, yet you find yourself waiting for that final attack out of nowhere.

Katharine McPhee, thank you for your death scene. That sounds morbid, but the scene stood out a bit, maybe as much for its campiness as the death itself, but glowing sharks, a defiant McPheever, and a well choreographed death scene all added up to a memorable portion of this movie.

BLU-RAY Aspects

If you are looking for clarity of color with your Blu-ray copy, you will be sorely disappointed. Much of the movie is done in a brown dusky palate to simulate the dark dankiness of the bayou, and that feeling is conveyed in the scenes in the movie. I do like the Blu-ray though for the clarity in a few sped up scenes, allowing for brake light/daylight colors to shine well and for the shark scenes. The animation of the added sharks remains strong in the copy so I recommend BLU-RAY YES on this one.

EXTRAS

Some fun extras are included on this one, maybe especially fun since they involve sharks and kill scenes. Speaking of which, the Shark Attack! Kill Machine is basically a combination of the shark scenes from the film including the attacks. The Fake Sharks, Real Scares is a cool look at the ways they brought the sharks of this movie to life, both with animatronically and with digitized versions. You want to know some fun facts about sharks? The Survival Guide shares factoids after kills to satisfy your morbid curiosity. And finally we have Ellis Island, the chance for the director to shine a bit and get his moment in the sun. Oh yeah, and you get the chance for this movie to travel with you anywhere as you get a digital copy as well. Sharks on the phone! Woohoo!

I forgot to mention one more extra that is not listed on the packaging. At the end of the credits, the cast has put together an music video for the movie. It's awesome. It's campy yet cool, interesting and odd, just the perfect combination to go with this fun shark attack movie.

Long ago in a land faraway, a common man led his people in revolt against an evil sorcerer in a video game adaptation that had moments of coolness mainly due to Jason Statham playing the common man promoted to the throne. The action stunts were fun as in any Statham movie, it had Ray Liotta playing a crazy sorcerer (overplaying actually) and Burt Reynolds as the king attempting to hold his land together. It was fun and over the tip with fairly well choreographed stunts and fight scenes. Well, they decided to make a sequel with Dolph Lungren as the long lost son of the king sent away.

Starting in present day Earth, Dolph Lungren plays Granger, an old soldier tired of the game, teaching self-defense to kids when he is interrupted by two sides of an other-world war in search for him. Accosted by darkly clad warriors, Granger of course follows the beautiful sorceress (Natalia Guslistaya) sent for him into a dark world waiting for their “Chosen” one. Between the death of the sorceress, the meeting with the now appointed king (Lochlyn Monroe), and an attempt on his life, Granger finds himself drawn into a conflict he thinks not his own as he is directed to end the life of the Holy Mother. Lines are blurred between good and evil as dragons, death, and destruction reign supreme.

JAMS Ink on In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds

Rustic locales and a sword and sorcery epic always go well together. Add in an 80s icon like Dolph Lungren and you have the aspects of a B movie classic. I don’t know if this makes the classic level like Hobo with a Shotgun, but it has its moments. If there was one thing for me to gripe about it would be that many of the more intriguing characters seem underused. The doctor (Natassia Malthe) equipped with poison to take out an entire village with a plague, who is also Granger’s love interest, gets tossed aside as a seemingly unused plot element for a time. The daughter of the Holy Mother (Heather Doerksen), promoted to queen in Granger’s place, is barely introduced and given the throne. It just seemed to suffer from underdeveloped plot issues that could have made it a more fun movie.

BLU-RAY Aspects

The local looks beautiful as Granger explores the lands he was from. The rustic hills and valleys, the dark forests, and the shadowy castle all ensure the beauty of the backdrop to the story. The CGI Dragon fits fairly well into the picture as well. I personally enjoyed the Blu-ray aspect of the film, and being as the film comes from a video game background I would recommend BLU-RAY YES on this one.

EXTRAS

Dual commentaries start off the extras on this disc as the director and writer join us on separate commentaries with their thoughts on the movie. Uwe Boll focuses mainly on the creative process and working with the actors in question while Michael Nachoff the writer tells about what was changed in the film from his vision to its transition to the screen. There is also a behind the scenes featurette with Uwe and the actors with some on set insight and a featurette with Nachoff discussing how his script tied in with the original movie and a shared look at his writing process.

Take on neurotic secret agent with mommy issues, a reluctant partner who shares a past history, and an inept agency involved with top secret spy work and you have FX’s Archer, a fun 60s styles animated series set in modern day. Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) is the most dangerous secret agent in the world in more ways than one. Dangerous to his foes, dangerous to his friends, and often dangerous to himself, he lives life on the edge alongside Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler) his field partner and ex-girlfriend and the rest of the ISIS crew. Overly charged on the libido this is definitely not for kids even with the simplistic animation involved, but Archer is definitely good for a few adult mannered laughs. So take a look at this James Bond/Spies Like Us combo and have a few laughs.

Archer also uses the amazing vocal talents of the hilarious Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, and Jessica Walter along with creator Adam Reed.

I am a fan of secret agents. Whether it is James Bond, Jason Bourne, or Austin Powers saving the world from the ultimate evil, the secret agent movies appeal to me. And Sterling Archer may have found a place beside them now. The animation is kind of trippy as it truly feels like a 60s style animation with stiff walking, and backgrounds that stand out as different behind the characters themselves. It reminds me some of the late 60s super hero cartoons or the Scooby Doo episodes with how the movement seems, and that is alright with me. It lends a fun campy feel to a show that does not attempt to take itself seriously at all.

Best episode is “Swiss Miss” which is actually the first episode of the season that shows Archer actually having to control himself as a nubile young lady throws herself at him nonstop. Normally the comedy lies in the escapades of Archer where as in this episode the comedy lies in the control. As the agency is in dire straits financially, Archer was sent to protect this daughter of a German dignitary against his will and the fact that it backfires on him is a lot of fun..

Take a recent high school graduate (Selena Gomez), a not so close step sister (Leighton Meester), a waitress with dreams bigger than they need to be (Katie Cassidy), throw them into the tourist destination of Paris and what do you get? A charming little movie about being who you are while being someone else entirely.

Grace (Gomez) is a mostly level headed high school graduate who has dreamed of a vacation to the romantic city of Paris with her best friend and crazy dreamer Emma (Cassidy). Having her parents throw her stepsister Meg (Meester) into the plans does not even phase Grace as her dreams of adventure. Unfortunately in typical comedy fashion, everything that cold go wrong does go wrong for Grace and her friends, until… conveniently, a high maintenance socialite walks into their lives and provides an opportunity for Grace to make this trip into the dream she wanted. Too bad the dream you have always wanted can often mess with the dream that you really need. Each of the girls find that out in this fun comedy with a cute message as Monte Carlo awaits you…

Selena Gomez is a star. A fish out of water, take over an identity, make sure the ending is not too cheesy type of movie needs someone to carry it, and Selena does. She has the uncanny ability to be cute but does not mug the camera, sensitive but not weak, funny but natural, and poised yet relatable. And she works well within this movie. You feel for the small town girl as you cheer her high society moments and feel for her as her fake life comes crashing around her. It is a fun film that shares the message of becoming who you truly want to be while showing the pratfalls of being who you really are not.

The scenery and backdrops of the exotic European setting for the film are definitely enhanced by the use of the Blu-ray technology. From the frenzied pace tour of Paris to the grassy fields of polo, to the exotic backdrop of Monte Carlo, the scenery on the Blu-ray is amazing. This is a movie that come Recommended for the Blu-ray format as the scenery lend to the excitement of Grace’s European adventures.

EXTRAS

For a fun little movie, they did well on not skimping on the extras. The Deleted Scenes and the Jet Setter’s Dreams were this reviewers favorite with some actual scenes that seemed to enhance the movie (maybe cut for time) and a cool little making of featurette showing the backdrop of the movie. Also included for those that would enjoy it are the Ding-Dang Delicious which highlights the male eye candy of the movie, Monte Carlo Couture highlighting of course the wardrobe and how it ties to the characters themselves, Gossip with the Girls which is pretty much as it sounds, Backstage Pass which gives a forum for makeup, wardrobe, locale, and more, and finally the Monte Carlo Match-up which is a mini quiz that tells you which character you are in the movie.

It is time for an imaginative young girl to take summer vacation to brand new heights as Judy Moody (Jordana Beatty) has a plan to make her summer vacation into the greatest adventure ever. That is until hit by a dose of nasty reality as her parents are called out of town and her cohorts in craziness are going away for the summer with their own families. What is a young imaginative girl to do?

Well, stir in a fun wild Aunt Opal (a fun and fitting part for Heather Graham), an annoying yet useful brother Stink (Parris Mosteller), a whole lot of imagination and prepare yourself for the greatest summer ever! The adventures keep coming, the fun never ends, and Judy finds out that sometimes the best plans should be changed as the Not Bummer Summer keeps her busy.

They picked a perfect actress to personify the Judy Moody character and they show you insight and reasons throughout the movie and the extras. Jordana Beatty ends up being the character that Megan McDonald imagined and created in text come to life in a energetic bundle of girl power.

Jaleel White and Heather Graham lend themselves to adult personas in this film who are willing to have a little fun and contribute strongly to the film while never stealing the spotlight from the kids who run the story.

Psychedelic colors and vivid imaginations lend themselves well to the clear aspects of a Blu-ray disc. The adventures that Judy and Aunt Opal find themselves in lend to the ability to keep clean vivid coloration and clear imaging. Besides, it’s packed with tons of fun stuff in the extras. So this Blu-ray comes Recommended or Highly Recommended if you have young kids.

EXTRAS

There is a good amount of extras added to keep you and your young Judy Moody fans busy on this set from pop quizzes, making of featurettes, deleted scenes, and some cool video diaries from the cast on set. It is a fun treasure stash of extras for a fun family film and adds the recommended aspect of the blu-ray set.

JAM Reviews Modern Family: Season Two from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment

What is truly the definition of a “Modern Family”? The answer can take so many connotations throughout the myriad of families that comprise this crazy country. Biracial couples? Check. Second marriages? Check. Gay couple? Check. With an adopted baby? Check. Oh yeah, and there’s a traditional family as well.

All solid sprinkling of society’s various familial units are on display on this comedic free-for-all. Ed O’Niell as the patriarch Jay Pritchett dispenses love and advice (not always the greatest) as he faces the challenges of both a combined family with his second wife Gloria (the AMAZINGLY funny Sofia Vergara) and her son Manny (the subtle yet hilarious Rico Rodriguez) joining his grown children in the growing Pritchett family. The traditional family in the program is the bickering, conniving, loving Dunphy’s, led by Jay’s daughter Clarie (the fun Julie Bowen) and her husband Phil (Ty Burrell). Throw in three lovely and challenging kids (Nolan Gould, Sarah Hyland, and Ariel Winter) and you have the crazy challenges of the traditional family. Claire’s brother Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) his partner Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), and their little Vietnamese Lily form the final family in the crazy bunch in the Modern Family.

Favorite episode: Earthquake. From Claire getting locked into the bathroom with a plumber while Phil races to fix something that should have been done long ago to Mitchell and Cameron finding an excuse to finally cancel longstanding, non-desirable plans, an earthquake changes the day of the whole family in funny ways. Watching Phil run back and forth trying to assuage Claire while attempting to smooth things over for when she gets out is funny.

EXTRAS

Take some extended and deleted family interviews (a fun aspect of this series with it’s pseudo-documentary feel), some more deleted and extended scenes from the shows themselves, a cool intro to the households with “At Home with the Modern Family”, a fun gag reel in which Sofia Vergara is the star (she is a funny woman), and a cool table read of the Strangers on a Treadmill episode which is really cool for anyone with an interest in seeing the true behind the scenes work of Hollywood.

Imagine living with your parents, meeting a girl and unknowingly fathering a child, and then finding out that the mother of your child is a serial killer soon to be executed by the state. Then imagine this is one of Fox’s newest comedies and that it is truly funny.

Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff) stars as the 23 year old new father to a cute little girl named Hope (Baylie and Rylie Cregut) that he must raise as a single father after some crazy extenuating circumstances. Luckily he has the comedic assistance of his blue collar parents Virginia (Martha Plimpton) and Burt (Garret Dillahunt) to help lead her on the “right” way? Think of this as a bit of My Name is Earl while raising a child which means it’s a little far out, but full of love along with the blue collar trailer trash-type comedy that can be expected. Even a dysfunctional family is a family that you can count on as long as the love flows freely, which it seems to with the Chances. So take a look at this crazy little family and check out what might happen next.

Favorite episode: Meet the Grandparents – as anyone knows, family is fun, frustrating, and forever, and Jimmy decides to invite Hope’s other grandparents to an impromptu Thanksgiving celebration. Of course, having a daughter that is a serial killer may mean something, especially as her parents seemed to have their own issues. Kind of puts in-laws into a better perspective when you see the craziness of the krazy kidnapping grandparents. It is fun to watch the bumbling mess-ups of family, and family once removed.

EXTRAS

We pretty much have a commentary on the pilot, the unaired pilot included for your enjoyment, and a few featurettes that are fun but a little bit on the light side. This seems the type of show that would have tons of bloopers and/or gags with the blue collar comedy involved, but they really don’t seem to share that much in the set. The Adorable Stars is cute for the little girl lovers as it shares a look at the girls who portray Hope, and the gag reel and deleted scenes actually are kind of cool, but it just seems like this set is missing the big ticket that a lot of these seasons have. Well, it is only season one so I am sure they will have lots to add as season two comes our way.

Raising Hope: Season One from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment hits shelves on DVD on September 20, 2011. It is one of those shows that will make you feel better about yourself all while laughing your butt off.

Long before they were enemies with opposing viewpoints on the mutant/human coexistence, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) were friends who worked together to find out more about themselves, what they were, and how to usher in the age of the mutant. Faced with an enemy they cannot overcome alone, they find other like themselves in order to take on the tyrannical actions of megalomaniac mutant by the name of Sebastion Shaw (Kevin Bacon), formerly known as Dr. Schmidt to the boy who would become Magneto.

From the beginning sibling-like relationship between Charles and Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) to the budding business relationship to something more between Charles and Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), interpersonal relationships abound as mutants come together, some fearful of their powers, others proud of who they are, but all of them needed for the fight against Shaw and his band of Evil Mutants.

And what a fight it is as within the backdrop of the Cuban Missile crisis, boats fly through magnetic manipulation, heroes fight to stop a war between anyone and everyone, and the seeds are set for future confrontations between two men with respect and love for each other, but with pride and feelings that cause a gap between them.

JAMS Ink on X-Men First Class

Continuity. If I would have any issues with this release, it would have been continuity. See, I am an X-men nut. I own the majority of X-men issues ever produced since the reimagining of the team in the 70s with Giant-Size X-Men #1 and know these characters better than most I would say. And I own the movies that came before in which a number of these characters already appeared at ages that really did not work with this film. And do you know what? I AM OK WITH THAT. This movie was fun, full of X-Men goodness, and whether it worked with all the continuity of the X-Men Universe or not is ok with me. The characters were fleshed out even if they were out of their own timeline, and I am really looking forward to the sequels that are sure to come.

In a comic book movie full of beautiful women, I found it kind of odd that my favorite characters were the destructive weapon of mass destruction Havok and the Irish screamer himself, the Banshee. Seeing characters going through the learning curve of learning control and ultimately finding strength in their weaknesses is enjoyable and with many of the characters being “second” tier compared to Wolverine, Cyclops, or Jean Grey, it allows the power of teamwork to shine throughout in this film.

BLU-RAY Aspects

Sun powered energy blasts, scream powered sonic manipulation, blue-tinted shape-shifting mutants, Nazi history, 60’s psychedelic backdrops… You need to get this one on Blu-Ray. It is really too much fun and too amazing graphically to not enjoy the color contrasts and clarity on the Bliu-ray. Nazi Germany looks dark and dreadful, the groovy clubs look psychedelic, and the mutant powers look as amazing as you would expect. So I am definitely happy to recommend BLU-RAY YES on this one.

EXTRAS

Talk about extras galore on this one. From the fun digital comics included to the behind the scenes information in the Children of the Atom, there is something for anyone on this disc. Cerebro Mutant Tracker was pretty cool too giving mutant information on characters you were interested about. The extended and deleted scenes were pretty cool, but as I enjoyed the film as a whole I am okay with the cuts that were made.

A brand new release shows Strawberry Shortcake and her friends thinking about careers, the future, and friendship in two episodes on Growing Up Dreams. In the first episode, Ginger Snaps dreams of seeing the stars with her friends, though Peppermint Fizz is trying to keep her grounded. But Strawberry Shortcake reminds her friends that dreams can come true, and are always worth dreaming as her friends take their trip to the stars. The second episode looks at Peppermint Fizz and her plans to be mayor or as she calls it “the Boss”. Lessons are learned as working together is the only way to overcome a major beetle problem, and being the boss is not as important as leading and helping each other, no matter the cost. So grab a copy of Growing Up Dreams, and let your dreams soar through the clouds!

JAMS Ink on Strawberry Shortcake: Growing Up Dreams

This is a good movie with good lessons for little girls to see. The idea of striving for your dreams and never letting go reminds us that we can strive for the future no matter what obstacles find their way into our path, or our daughters’ path. And the focus on leadership versus being the boss as Peppermint Fizz discovers that necessary projects need to take precedence over special projects for the boss. Check this out for a good look at girls dreaming big and learning about important careers they can strive for.

Flying in from the icy Northern Minnesota tundra to the balmy sunny shores of Rio de Janeiro, the blue macaw aptly known as Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) journeys to meet the only other left of his kind, the entrancing and enigmatic Jewel (Anne Hathaway) in this fun new Blu-ray release from FOX Home Entertainment. Taken long ago from the Brazilian rain forest as a little chick, Blu has grown up with a bookstore chic young lady named Linda (Leslie Mann) in the frozen north until a crazy opportunity leads to a foray into the tropical climate of Brazil in pursuit of a chance to save Blu’s species.

Besides Blu’s chance for romance, he finds an adventure full of bold birdnapping, frantic flight follies, and a crazy cache of new friends in this wonderful tropical paradise including Nico (Jamie Foxx) and Pedro (Will i. Am) two little birds with a metric ton of attitude, Rafael (George Lopez) a father with a need to get away to the Carnival, and crazy Luiz (Tracy Morgan) a dog who is ready to party and shake it all out. Through in a soundtrack that really adds to the movie and you have a fun family foray into the beauty of Rio de Janeiro while swaying to the masterful soundtrack as you fly.

JAMS Ink on Rio

JAM had heard the soundtrack before but had not seen the movie yet so I had a taste of what to expect but nothing visual that I really expected in my mind. Man, I wish I would have seen this on the big screen. This was a fun romp through the rain forests of Rio with flashy colorful characters that are fun, unique, and interesting each in their own way. Some might feel overloaded by the vocal name dropping that happens within the picture, but each voice tends to work its own way with the characters themselves. From Jamie Foxx and his smooth suave debonair voice matched with the little guy and Will i. Am with the tougher talker than truthful tough guy, the characters personalities shine throughout the trip through a land that has a personality of its own whether in the colorful, plentiful rain forest or in the kaleidoscopic overload of Carnival.

The monkeys are bad little simians and try to steal the show from our heroes. From their music bopping, wallet stealing introduction to their crazy throw down with a plethora of birds, they are a hilarious addition to the movie even with their less than desired moral codes.

BLU-RAY Aspects

The colors of the rain forest come alive with the amazing Blu-ray clarity on this release. From fanciful feathered flyers to fruity foliage to the colorful confusion of Carnival, this animated film makes full use of all the tricks or the trade as it makes its way to Blu-ray and takes over your screen. Whether a young child or just young at heart, the BLU-RAY is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

EXTRAS

The extras are a lot of fun on this release or maybe that’s just because of the bouncing and bopping that the youthful members of the JAM team were doing as they watched the music videos and Samba lesson. Being able to watch hopping, dancing, and shaking while taking a look at these fun extras made the disc all worthwhile for this reviewer. Exploring the World of Rio, Hot Wings, and the Deleted Scenes were more fun for this reviewer and all parties of all ages

Ever thought life could be better with just one little boost, one little break, one little pill? One little pill that enhances the portion used within the brain turns Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) into a super genius power machine.

A down on his luck author, Eddie finds his world falling apart as writer’s block has stifled any creativity he has, his girlfriend can take no more of his life, and everything is falling to pieces. Then through one chance meeting with a former relative through marriage, Eddie finds exactly what he needs. One little pill changes everything, and not always for the best. Money, prestige, and more come his way even as his life starts tumbling out of control. Side effects, insidious characters, and himself as his worst enemy conspire to take him down before he can learn to control his destiny and his own life.

Also starring the amazing Robert DeNiro, Limitless looks at the lengths a man will go to change himself and his life all around.

JAMS Ink on Limitless

Man has always searched for the means to make himself better in a myriad of ways. Whether through the use of pills or any other shortcuts, it seems like we have been searching for the miracle which that can change our lives. It almost seems that NZT is like a souped up version of Viagra in that it completely changes how Eddie is able to accomplish things in his life. It is a poor commentary on a society that searches so often for the easy way to succeed in that Eddie finds himself so addicted to the drug that even death threats, manipulative businessman, and the warnings of an ex-wife cannot keep him from the need to pop the little clear pill.

The idea of the Hollywood ending was a bit much for me as well, as Eddie is able to manipulate addiction and side effects out of his perfect escape. It has the feelings of a super hero film, yet the addiction aspect of it rears its ugly head but is then supposedly bypassed but not conquered. There is too much of a perfect world ending when dealing with the addiction side of things for my taste, but any other ending would have been too depressing to make a movie someone would want to watch.

BLU-RAY Aspects

I have to say that a psychedelic tripout while under the sway of a brain altering drug definitely looks even brighter and more LiteBrite crazy in Blu-ray. With it mainly being a storyline based movie, the Blu-ray aspect is not absolutely needed as much as in an actionbased thriller, but it is pretty nonetheless. BLU-RAY IF WANTED on this one.

EXTRAS

Not too many extras included on this one which is kind of odd for a fairly large theatrical release, but having the extended cut is kind of cool, so that you can either watch it as shown in the theater or watch it with extended story lines. The alternate ending included is not really all that exciting and the Man Without Limits is pretty much just an intro to the character of Eddie himself. The making of is just an added extra, so the extras really do not give you any reason to splurge necessarily.
